BUG by Bence adam Kiss

BUG is developed by MOME line – design works

The BUG is a beetle-shaped jewel made with an origami technique and contains a digital thermometer. After activation BUG gives a feedback on the actual ambient temperature by flashing it’s LED light in every 30 seconds. BUG is part of the doramojzes S/S collection and it is available in Hercules and Stag Beetle shapes.

This BUG is the third version developed and released by designer Bence Adam Kiss. The metallwork and jewellery designer graduated from Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design Budapest in 2008 and he made the first BUG as his diploma work. The first base was to create a jewel not for a merely passive, decorating purpose but to sense and reflect the ever changing environment of its wearer. Depending on the current temperature the built-in LED flashes coloured lights after every digit. So when you see two magenta flashes and six green ones for example, it means the actual temperature is 26 Celsius degrees. When it is below zero Celsius a blue flash signals – 10 C and a red flash indicates – 1 C.

In the course of the development process Bence made his way from the first, thin rubber-coated prototype to a cyber sex-appeal covered with silicone. These BUGs were exhibited at several events including the Milan Design Week 2009, Extremely Hungary festival in New York and the first Innovation Techshow in Budapest. This season for Dora Mojzes’ latest black-and-white collection the BUG got accentuated – Bence folded it in semi-transparent muslin to form a beetle brooch. So in terms of fashionable technology the sheer technological curiosity became a well thought design product.

BUGs are available at several Hungarian shops and the eBay Store is coming soon.
